HOT: Long Live the American Work Ethic

A Gallup Poll found that 38% of American workers put in 45 or more hours a week, compared with 30% of Canadians and 28% of Britons. At the same time, nearly three-quarters (74%) of US worker respondents said they are "completely satisfied" with their relations with co-workers, compared with just 59% of Canadians and 61% of Britons. Moreover, three-fifths of US workers said they were completely satisfied with their bosses, compared with just 47% of Canadian workers, and only 42% of those in the UK. US workers also felt better about the flexibility of their hours, the amount of vacation time, recognition, their pay, chances for promotion, and their pension plan. GETTING HOTTER: Outsourcing

About a third (32%) of some 300 HR executive survey respondents are currently outsourcing part or all of their professional level recruitment activities to a third party provider, according to a survey conducted by InSearch Worldwide. Of those already outsourcing such efforts, about 60% are planning to further expand their use of outsourced recruiting services, and over 40% of organizations outsourcing recruitment are utilizing it for all professional level hires. As seen in Workforce Management, Myers-Briggs celebrated its 60th anniversary in October. Think about it: this quirky, highly used test – reportedly 89 of the Fortune 100, including GM – has been around since 1943. Article quotes: “After all those years, it’s said to be still the most popular and widely used personality-assessment tool of its kind in the world, with about 2.5 million tests given each year… Many consider it an essential tool for career planning and development.” Learn more…
